This has been a fun project to complete for a April Wedding in Monterey, California. Weddings today can be very costly and the brides mother realized that it was less expensive to have custom slipcover made for the hotel chairs than to have rental chairs brought in for the wedding reception.
So here is the recipe for 140 slipcovers: Start with 300 yards of fabric, 280 yards of washable welt cord to be covered, 15 spools of (6000 yards) thread which is 90,000 yards of thread.
I started by making a pattern for the slipcover which needed to be in only 3 main pieces for the slipcover. Because of pattern design I ended up with a total of 7 pieces for the slipcover which meant we would cut a total of 980 pieces of fabric for the slipcovers.
This required serging 980 pieces of fabric.
Designing and Cutting the Pattern
Now we have 980of pieces which have been serged. There are more piles of fabric!
We use a cellulose fiber welt cord for making slipcovers, it does now shrink like cotton welt cord. I will soon have it up on our website for sale.
The skirt wraps the back legs of the chair and just brushes the floor in the back. Each slipcover is fitted to the chair for hemming the length.
As you can see the slipcover have a French Vintage style with various wash cotton Jacquard fabrics. I'm really looking forward to a final photo for the wedding reception with 140 chairs finished for this exciting event.
