Out West at the Flying E Ranch

Last week I visited the Flying E Ranch, a great Dude Ranch in Wickenburg,AZ just west of Phoenix about 40 miles give or take a cactus of so.

Breakfast is over, the horses are saddled, and your day at the Flying E Ranch begins with a ride out over rolling desert hills to check for newborn calves. At the Flying E, a dude and working cattle ranch, the casual and relaxed atmosphere is as natural as our gorgeous sunsets.

Well, it is time for the Flying E to have a new look!  Today we are getting ready to select the fabrics for the guest rooms at the Flying E.  I have a found a beautiful soft microfiber with a tooled leather look for the duvets.  The fabric is so soft and cuddly that it would keep any cowboy warm on the range. 

     

Now for the lightly shirred bedskirts, this is where we need to add a cowgirl touch! Maybe a stripe or print.  That is today's project.

Rules: 

1. Entry must have been created or sewn by entrant.  Cannot be a purchased finished product, the contest is all about making projects for the home.
2. Everyone can enter 2 projects
3. Photos can be use by Home Fashions U for future events
4. Winners my redeem their awards for Class Fees or Sewing Supplies only at Home Fashions U
5. Awards must be redeemed within 6 months of contest date.
6. Acceptable Projects:  Window Treatments, Slipcovers, Pillows, Bedding, Upholstery, Fabric Art,  Cushions, Furniture

You can redeem the Gift Certificates for Classes, Online Classes, Kasmir Fabrics, and Sewing Supplies.

Your projects can be from any room in your home or patio, you can have help from family and friends. You can be the designer and use others to help complete your project.  The project must include Fabrics or Textiles in any way shape or form. 

We would love before and after photos of your favorite project.  The Contest Starts August 1, 2009 and ends August 31,2009.  Please send large size photos of your project, we will adjust the size when needed.  Email your photos to Claudia at homefashionsu@gmail.com

My sewing buddy Monica Posner and her family.  Her hubby is career naval officer and just returned from Iraq this past winter.

 

My nephew Keary and his wife Gina.  Welcome Home Keary!  Happy 4th, Keary returned from Afghanistan and Iraq today for the third time.

The Sewin Asylum In AZ - Just Lock me up and let me sew!

Erica Doyle was recently on our local Sonoran Living Program, ABC Channel 15.  Erica was showing how to embellish kitchen towels with rick rack and fabric.   Remember RICK RACK?   Erica Is also a organizer of the  Arizona Sewing Meetup.     The Sewing Asylum offers beginning sewing and serging classes.

I've been teaching sewing for over 15 years now. I have a degree in Home Economics with an emphasis in Fashion Design/Merchandising from California State University, Northridge. When in college I used to say, "I want to promote home sewing!" and all my classmates would look at me like I was nuts. I learned to sew as a child, starting out with mumus for my Barbie dolls. When I was a freshman in high school, I took my first sewing class and fell in love with my sewing machine. It was such a thrill to take a piece of fabric, cut it up and sew it into something to wear. I thought everybody should be doing this and they'd love it as much as I do. My goal is to make sewing fun for you. Don't sweat the mistakes, we can take care of those. Just enjoy the process...I'm not grading you like you were back in the days of High School Home Ec. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!
